16-07-2007 Press release
The French safety authority (Autorité de Sûreté Nucléaire) has published an article in its July issue no 176 to emphasize our efforts related to the drop tests we carry out on our transportation packages.
“The control made on January 9th, 10th and 11th, 2007 concerned the drop tests carried out in order to check the new cask called R72 which has been designed to transport irradiated fuel rods. Our surveillance personnel has followed up the drop tests made both under normal and accidental conditions. The inspectors have especially checked:
- the drop heights
- the slope angles
- the accelerometers placing as well as the different records established by the operators with regard to the quality insurance.
The test procedure has been correctly respected. Furthermore the inspectors have consulted the calibration certificates related to the device used: torque wrenches for tightening torque adjustment, electronic device for drop angles measurement, temperature detectors. Finally, the inspectors have examined by sampling the scale model QA data package.
The inspectors have appraised the intervening parties know how. The result of the inspection is very satisfactory.”
